Alfredo Sorrentino joins Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto

Alfredo Sorrentino Sala returns to the red-and-white set-up, having already played a season there in 2011–2012.

Sorrentino, from Sueca in Valencia, is 34 years old, 198 cm tall and weighs 102 kilos, and is one of the Valencian players with the greatest career and experience in Spanish and international elite handball in recent decades.

After progressing through the Spanish youth national teams, he made his Liga Asobal debut at the now-defunct BM Valencia, where he met Pachi Martí and several of Fertiberia’s Valencian players, including Tarraso, Nebot and Bruixola.

The disappearance of the Valencian team led him on a spell with various clubs, all in the top division, including CAI Zaragoza, where he played from 2005 to 2009. From there he moved to the emerging Naturhouse La Rioja where he played until 2011. That was the year he joined BM Puerto Sagunto, where he played for one season. He began 2012–2013 at Ciudad Encantada, but then TBV Lemgo of the German Bundesliga came calling, where he played for a season. He returned to Cuenca for another season, but his spell in German handball opened the door to a historic second-tier German club, TV Grosswallstadt where he played last season. The German club declared insolvency last summer, and with the main squads already finalised, Alfredo took a break from his professional career and returned to his home city of Sueca.

The call from the red-and-white club made him reconsider his sabbatical and, although on a non-professional basis, he returns to the red-and-white set-up to contribute his Valencian identity, experience and quality, particularly in defensive work, where Alfredo Sorrentino has demonstrated his highest sporting level.
