Alser BM Puerto Sagunto sink 15 minutes from shore

Alser BM Puerto Sagunto were beaten 32–23 by Caja3 BM Aragón in a match played last Saturday at the Príncipe Felipe Pavilion in Zaragoza.

Goran Dzokic’s men managed to hold the fifth-placed side in the Asobal League for the first 45 minutes, but despite their effort, determination, courage and desire to put in a good performance, the stark reality of the difference in squad depth prevailed, especially after the team’s two left backs, Muiña and Stefanovic, were unfortunately injured in a match in which everyone was needed and which once again could not go their way.

The first half was very even, with Sorrentino directing the red-and-whites’ attacks and Sorli and Cartón repeatedly troubling Bruixola on the counter-attack, 15–13 at half-time.

The second half remained balanced until Caja3 once again turned to their goalkeeper Iñaki Malumbres, who saved shots from every angle. In that situation, the final 15 minutes were a nightmare for the Valencians, who watched helplessly as a promising 22–19 became a difficult 25–20 five minutes later, with the gap then continuing to widen.

A poor matchday for Alser, who saw league rivals such as Antequera and Anaitasuna pick up points, while safety is now three points away. Next Saturday, the Canal Nou Dos cameras will broadcast the clash with Amaya Sport San Antonio live from 16:00 at the legendary Ovni, which is preparing once again to support the Valencians in the tough challenge of staying in the best league in the world.
