School Handball: Provisional Registration Results

Once the first registration period for the Sports Initiation Schools has ended, we have the first data on the current situation regarding handball, managed by Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto, which received promotional support from the two local clubs, BM Morvedre and BM Alto Horno.

As of today, Sagunto Town Council has activated 15 activity groups, located in nine schools across the city, with a total of 170 boys and girls registered in the benjamin and alevín age groups. At present, we are waiting to activate some more schools that do not yet have enough registrations. These include CEIP Cronista Chabret in the Sagunto district, which has three registrations, and Colegio Romeu, which already has enough registrations; they are the only two schools with a handball tradition in the historic centre. It would be a shame if the legendary Cronista Chabret failed to reach the required number of registrations, as it is one of the cradles of handball in Sagunto.

In the Puerto district, we currently have activity groups at Cervantes, Maestro Tarrazona, Maria Inmaculada, Maria Yocasta, Mediterraneo, Begoña, San Pedro and Vilamar. We are trying to activate Colegio Tierno Galván, which has been without handball for many years, and we hope that our collaboration with the Manos Amigas NGO will allow us to establish a group at Colegio Baladre, with children from that school and La Pinaeta.

This season, we are also delighted to be able to play handball again in Canet de Berenguer. Collaboration with the neighbouring municipality’s Department of Sport has enabled us to recruit a group of around 15 boys and girls, who are also joining our Sports Initiation School and the School League.

As you can see, this is outstanding recruitment work led by the School Coordinator, Carlos Nuñez, and the School Director, Agustin Gimenez, ensuring that handball remains one of the favourite team sports among the city’s boys and girls.
