Last Sunday the 13th, the rain gave us a break in the morning and the traditional Fallas tournament, organised by the Handball Sports Initiation School run by C.BM. Puerto Sagunto and C.BM. Mar Sagunt, was able to take place on the two outdoor courts at the municipal sports centre.
The aim of this gathering was to ensure that the matches were competitive and balanced, so three groups of four teams each were formed, taking into account the school league standings at the end of the first half of the competition.
Group 1 consisted of the four highest-placed teams (Vilamar R, Cervantes M, Baladre R and María Inmaculada K), group 2 of those finishing fifth to eighth (Maestro Tarrazona, Mediterráneo, María Inmaculada C and Vilamar F), and group 3 of the bottom four (Baladre, Cronista Chabret, Cervantes J and San Vicente Ferrer).
In this way, the teams in each group played one another in 20-minute matches, meaning that each team played three games.
During the four hours the event lasted (from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm), the approximately 100 participants (boys and girls in the benjamín and alevín age groups) were able to replenish their energy with water, juice, milkshakes and cereal bars provided by the organisers.
Finally, it is worth highlighting the excellent atmosphere throughout the morning, with numerous family members cheering on the young players in a tournament with neither winners nor losers. The important thing was that everyone could enjoy Sagunto’s most renowned sport before the start of the Fallas festivities.
