INSTITUTIONAL STATEMENT ON THE CLUB'S 75TH ANNIVERSARY

Fertiberia Balonmano Puerto Sagunto received municipal backing yesterday ahead of its forthcoming 75th anniversary. Sagunto Town Council's plenary session unanimously approved an institutional motion supporting and recognising the club.

The red-and-white club continues to seek support and strengthen its position ahead of its imminent 75th anniversary, which will be celebrated throughout 2026. However, we will have to wait until January, when it will be presented to the public at an event planned by the Organising Committee and the red-and-white organisation.

“Celebrating 75 years in our sport is a very special achievement. We must remember the city's links, the stature of the club and its relationship with the Spanish state, as well as the periods in which the club was a standard-bearer in the two most important divisions of national handball,” added club president Carlos Argente in the motion presented to the political groups making up the municipal corporation.

“It is now time to seek the public and private funding necessary for 2026 to turn the whole population red and white through a programme of multidisciplinary events,” Argente concluded.

Fertiberia Balonmano Puerto Sagunto, whose predecessor was Club de Balonmano Altos Hornos, founded in 1951, will celebrate its 75th anniversary next year, in 2026. We have a history worthy of recognition. Only two teams have achieved this milestone before our club and maintained continuity since their foundation: Club Balonmano Granollers (1944), of the Liga Nexus Energía ASOBAL, and Sociedad Deportiva Teucro de Pontevedra (1945), of Primera Nacional.

We are also, together with Club Balonmano Granollers, the only surviving founding clubs of Spain's first División de Honor Masculina league, established in February 1959. In addition, we were founders of Spain's Men's División de Honor Plata in the 1994-1995 season. There is currently no other men's handball club in Spain that founded the two most important divisions in our sport.

For this reason, 2026 is not, and must not be, an ordinary year for the club. It is our 75th anniversary and, therefore, we have a responsibility to plan and schedule events throughout the year aimed at the entire population, from the youngest to the oldest, women and men alike, leaving a lasting mark in the club's history. They must also cover every area: social, cultural and, of course, sporting.

To this end, we have created a versatile and diverse Organising Committee, chaired by Rafa García Marín and made up of directors, former directors, former players, female and male supporters, as well as an Honour Committee comprising prominent figures from the world of handball, various institutions and the business community.

We appeal to the whole community to attend all the events that are scheduled and, together, make 2026 a very special year for the club, but also for the city.

We assert that we are much more than a handball sports club. Since the beginning of our history, we have been connected with our community. We have had players from several generations of the same families and maintain friendly relations with clubs from other sports. We also organise conferences and talks for the whole population through cultural organisations, hold celebrations with high levels of public participation, have collaborated with numerous fallas committees and make annual visits to the hospital. In short, we are a force that brings the municipality together and helps build our community.
