Alser BM Puerto Sagunto lose to Granollers
Fraikin BM Granollers won the II Jorge Clausell Memorial by defeating Alser BM Puerto Sagunto 32–27 in the match played yesterday, Friday, at the La Garrofera Sports Centre in Almassora in front of around 400 spectators. The match followed the usual pattern of this second pre-season, with both coaches giving playing time to every member of their squads, while attacking inaccuracies occurred repeatedly on both sides. Both teams defended in a 6–0 formation, which was not particularly pressurising, allowing the first lines of both sides to shoot at will against the goalkeepers. Granollers prevailed because of the lower number of errors, while Alser's lack of accuracy in shooting enabled Granollers, a counter-attacking machine, to make the most of its wing players. In this respect, the red-and-whites also played their part, especially Jorge Sanchez in the first half. The emotional highlight of the match was the final quarter of an hour, during which youth goalkeeper Samuel Ibáñez, who came through Almassora's academy, made five fine saves, earning applause from his enthusiastic fellow townspeople. In short, this was the third defeat against the team from Vallès this year (two friendlies and the league match in Granollers). However, the final rematch remains in the second half of the Liga Asobal fixture, when Fraikin BM Granollers will visit the Ovni in the middle of Fallas week.
