Alser BM Puerto Sagunto pleased with meeting with the city's politicians

This morning, Alser Puerto Sagunto met with the Mayor and the Council Spokespersons' Committee of Sagunto Town Council. Representing Alser were principal sponsor Julian Castellblanque, President Juanjo Bataller and the club's four Vice-Presidents, Rafa Garcia, Arturo Díaz, Juan Ramirez and Carlos Argente.

All the municipal groups' spokespersons were present: Sergio Muniesa (PP), Quico Fernandez and Teresa Garcia (Compromis), Jose Luis Chover (PSOE), Fernando López Egea (IU) and Manolo Gonzalez (SP), along with the Mayor of Sagunto, Alfredo Castelló.

Juanjo Bataller explained the purpose of the meeting and was clear from the outset, saying that “we have not come here to ask the council for money; we have come to secure unanimous support and to have you instruct the Mayor to open the doors of supra-municipal institutions and companies based in the city to us”. The red-and-white club also gave each municipal group a dossier analysing the club's media impact as the city organisation with the greatest national and international reach.

The club had prepared a motion to be submitted to the Municipal Plenary, recalling its strengths and reasons for securing “a stable and realistic project that guarantees the survival of what has been one of the municipality's hallmarks for decades”. After setting out the reasons, the Plenary was asked, “to express the groups' support for BM Puerto Sagunto remaining in the city and participating in the Asobal league”. The motion also requests that“the Mayor be given a plenary mandate, without committing confirmed budgetary allocations from the council, to take the necessary steps to provide BM Puerto Sagunto with new sponsors”.

At the meeting, all the groups unanimously expressed support for the idea behind the motion, although Manolo Gonzalez (SP) stated that he needed to discuss it with his group's executive committee, while IU said that some wording would need adjusting. The Mayor said that if the Plenary unanimously approved the motion, he would feel strengthened in his efforts to support BM Puerto Sagunto—something he had always tried to do, including facilitating business support for the city's clubs.

In short, it was a highly satisfactory meeting for the club, which now hopes that this political support will translate into new sponsors providing economic stability for this major sporting project.
