The club receives the Manuel Cosín award from Falla Eduardo Merello

Last weekend, president Carlos Argente and Rafael García Marín, chairman of the organising committee for our 75th anniversary, collected the Manuel Cosín award from Falla Eduardo Merello at its presentation ceremony, held at the Casa de la Cultura in Puerto de Sagunto.

Reaching 75 years is no easy task for a sporting organisation. It is enough to understand that we are the third-oldest handball club in Spain, surpassed only by Fraikin BM Granollers and Sociedad Deportiva Teucro. We are also the oldest club in the entire Valencian Community.

As far as our town is concerned, only Club Deportivo Acero can claim to have served the community for longer than us. For seventy-five years, players, children, members and supporters have been part of our history.

It is difficult not to find connections with people who, directly or indirectly, have been close to Fertiberia Balonmano Puerto Sagunto or its predecessor, Altos Hornos. This is true not only of individuals, but also of organisations and fallas, as in this case.

A historic example is the club’s former treasurer, Antonio Esteban, who was a prominent member of the aforementioned Falla Eduardo Merello. This award is dedicated to his memory in memoriam, as he would have been very proud of the coming together of two of his passions if he were here with us today.

Antonio Esteban was one example, but he is neither the first nor will he be the last, as many falleros are connected with our sport—a genuine link that runs through the town and builds civil society day after day and person by person, making us all better.
