Fertiberia sign centre-back Jaume Pujol from Barça B

Fertiberia Balonmano Puerto Sagunto announce the signing of Jaume Pujol. The centre-back joins from Barça B, is 25 years old and stands 1.89 metres tall. He comes from a family of sportspeople, with all his cousins practising some kind of sport. He started playing handball at the age of 6, but did not join Club Joventut Handbol Mataró until he was 8. He spent 15 seasons at the club; during the final 2 months of his last season, he moved to Santoña (Cantabria) to try to help the club qualify for the promotion stages to DH Plata. The Mataró player, also known as Mitus Pujol, joined the Barça reserve side two seasons ago, where he played as a wing and centre-back. Rojiblanco coach Toni Malla said of the new addition to the squad: ‘Jaume is the kind of player every coach likes to have in the squad because of his character, work ethic and versatility. We are delighted that he can be with us. When we considered the possibility of bringing in Pujol, we felt we needed a versatile player capable of playing in any position in the back line. He also excels in the advanced position, and with Aitor’s departure we had been left without a player in that role.’

Fertiberia’s new centre-back is very excited about making his ASOBAL debut and becoming part of the rojiblanco club: ‘I am very happy and excited that they thought of me for next season. The fact that they have been promoted to ASOBAL and given me the opportunity to be part of the team means a great deal to me.’

Jaume Pujol already knows the rojiblanco supporters as an away player, but this year he hopes to enjoy ‘their commitment’ while wearing the rojiblanca shirt: ‘The two times I played at the ovni, I saw that they were very passionate supporters. Now that Puerto Sagunto are returning to ASOBAL, I would like that commitment to be the same or even greater, because playing in that atmosphere is spectacular.'
