Fertiberia win the final against Bada Huesca

Fertiberia Balonmano Puerto Sagunto managed to beat Bada Huesca 28-27 in a match in which the balance could have tipped either way. The fight until the end and an Ovni crowd that pushed their players on were key to the red-and-whites showing their character in the final minutes of the match.

The match promised to be a final, and in the opening minutes both teams came out onto the Ovni's blue court determined to take the two points. The match was extremely even, with a succession of goals, until Bruixola started making saves and the red-and-white side built a three-goal lead. After a Huesca timeout, the visiting team began to pull away again and managed to draw level, going into half-time with the scoreboard reading 13-14.

After the interval, Bada Huesca began to take the lead and it looked as though the match was turning bleak for Vicent Nogués's side. The visitors capitalised on the Puerto de Sagunto side's errors in attack, as they played much of the second half without Querin or Dija, who left the court carrying knocks. But from the 20th minute onwards, the red-and-whites managed to draw level and the match became a true final. When they took a one-goal lead, an attacking error nearly allowed the match to end all square, but a superb save by Toni Alegre and an attacking error by Huesca gave the red-and-white side the eagerly awaited victory in the final minute.

The next match will be on Wednesday against Valladolid. On Saturday, handball will return to the Ovni with the match against Granollers at 6 pm, which will be broadcast by La Liga Sport.
