Fertiberia lose the final against Sinfín

Fertiberia Balonmano Puerto Sagunto were defeated 26–28 by Balonmano Sinfín. The red-and-whites lose a key match in the fight for survival, and on Saturday they will play another final at the Ovni against Quabit Guadalajara, which they simply must win.

The match began with a cold home side that could not get past the Cantabrian defence. So much so that by the 12th minute they had scored no more than 3 goals, compared with Sinfín’s 8, as the visitors took advantage of the home side’s poor attacking accuracy to break quickly on the counter. Nogués called a timeout and from that moment the red-and-whites began to get into the match, improving defensively. With Guitart’s saves and Corzo’s counter-attacking goals (9), Toni Alegre’s side moved to within one goal of Sinfín (10–11). Then, in the 25th minute, the visiting coach called a timeout, but Aizen levelled the score. Before half-time, Sinfín moved back in front (12–13).

After the interval, Corzo and Querin restored parity to the score, but the visitors’ joy was short-lived, as they again moved two goals ahead. Nogués called a timeout with time still available for a comeback; they reduced the deficit to one goal, but it was not to be.

Next Saturday, 12 December, there will be another match at the Ovni at 18.30. The red-and-whites face another final against Quabit Guadalajara. The match can now be held with spectators and limited capacity; specifically, members M1 to M125 (plus Valentin Vulpe), S983 and F6, F9 and F19, and their associated members will be allowed in.
