The match began at two distinctly different tempos, with Ciudad Encantada taking the initiative through a highly motivated Miguelón, who opened the match with 4 consecutive goals that created the first gap on the scoreboard. In fact, poor shot selection left the red-and-whites facing a deficit that ultimately proved decisive, with an 11–3 scoreline in the first fifteen minutes.
The Valencians adjusted their systems in both areas, and a great Corzo in scoring mode managed to stem the flow and leave the score at 15–10 at half-time.
The second half was much the same, with the Cuenca side maintaining their lead under the sound direction of Rafa López. The red-and-whites were understandably lacking sharpness at this stage of the season, with novel direction from Frenchman Sayad, who was good in directing play but very erratic with his shooting. The Valencians committed 19 turnovers to the Cuenca side’s 15, clearly highlighting both teams’ need for more match practice. They will meet again with two points at stake in the opening match of the Liga Asobal.
The red-and-whites’ next warm-up match will be at the Ovni next day 21 at 20.15 against BM Alarcos of the Silver Honour Division.
