Juani Villarreal completes a dream goalkeeping department

Argentine goalkeeper Juani Villarreal has signed for Fertiberia Balonmano Puerto Sagunto for two seasons (2025-2026 and 2026-2027) and will share goalkeeping duties with Dani Martínez.

He is a 25-year-old goalkeeper who stands 204 cm tall, exceeding two metres in height. From 2019 to 2022, he represented one of the leading clubs in Argentine handball, Sedalo. His first overseas adventure came in 2022-2023 with Balonmano Ciudad de Algeciras, in Primera Nacional. He did not finish the season with Algeciras, as he signed for LandBit Lanzarote in April to play in the promotion phase for División de Honor Plata.

In summer 2023, he joined Trops Málaga of División de Honor Plata, where he remained until the end of this season. Just over a month ago, the red-and-white fans were able to see him in action when the Málaga side visited the Port de Sagunt Sports Hall on matchday 29 of the regular league. Despite the home side’s 31-27 victory, he produced an excellent performance.

With the Argentine national team, he was a regular in youth and junior squads. He has also taken part in several training camps with the senior national team. His honours include silver medals at the 2019 South Central Youth Championship in Brazil and the 2021 Cali Junior Pan American Championship.

“We would like to thank him for the effort he made to join our project. It is a privilege to have one of Argentina’s most promising goalkeepers. In my view, we probably have the best goalkeeping duo in the competition,” said first-team coach Toni Malla, referring to the Argentine’s desire to join and the future predicted for him.

“With Juani, we will have a goalkeeper who differs from Dani, which will give us stability and consistency in the position during a season with so many matches,” added the Tortosa coach about how the two goalkeepers will complement each other.

As for the progress of squad planning, the renewals of head coach Toni Malla, for two fixed seasons and one optional season, have already been officially announced, along with those of players Dani Martínez, Arnau Fernández, Matheus de Novais, Joaquín Barceló, Diego Olba and Antonio Capitán (all under contract until 2027), and academy players David García, Javier Olivares and Gonzalo Pérez (all three until 2026).

As for signings, those of Alex Pozzer (until 2027) and Oriol Teixidor (until 2026) are also official. The three final additions will be announced in the coming weeks through the club’s website and social media.
