Nules Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto B beat CH Alcàsser 31–28 in the friendly match that served as their presentation to their supporters. The match welcomed the start of the season, in which the Nules side will compete in Primera Estatal, and demonstrated how competitive the third tier of Spanish handball is.
CH Alcàsser proposed a very serious contest, with their incisive attack at times setting the tone of the match, to the extent that they held the lead on the scoreboard for a good part of the first half. The visiting defence also looked very solid in the opening period and forced the home forwards to attack through the flanks, causing their shots to repeatedly hit the woodwork when they were not kept out by the opposing goalkeeper, who produced an extraordinary performance and ultimately prevented Nules Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto B’s advantage on the scoreboard from being greater.
Nevertheless, parity on court and on the scoreboard was the dominant feature for most of regulation time, with the score tied more often than not until the home side finally broke the deadlock in the closing stages. Until then, neither team had managed to move more than two goals clear of their opponents.
But the Nules attack eventually prevailed and opened an unbridgeable gap, causing the Valencians to fade until the home side ended up controlling the game at will and securing a victory that delighted the large crowd who had made their way to the municipal sports hall in this town in La Plana Baixa.
It was a difficult but thrilling match for a newly formed team that is only just beginning its journey and remains in the process of building cohesion, a baptism of fire in front of their supporters that was also the final test, since the league begins next week and Nules Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto B will host Maristas de Algemesí (Sunday at 12 noon) on the opening matchday. There is no turning back now; the Nules players must build on the positive feelings shown at their presentation.
