The beginning
Handball emerged in Puerto de Sagunto within the social and sporting life of Altos Hornos de Vizcaya. A group of basketball players turned a new sport into one of Valencian handball's strongest projects.
The 1951-52 season marks the beginning, the Fornás becomes home and the creation of Altos Hornos B in 1955 confirms a commitment to continuity and youth development.
The elite
A founder member of the División de Honor and a regular in the top flight, the club earns its own place in Spanish handball. Its first league match in the Port is played against Granollers on 8 February 1959.
The concrete court at the Fornás hosts a decade of international players and prestigious victories. The 1968 Spanish runners-up finish remains the era's greatest sporting achievement.
The rebirth
The lack of an indoor court brings Altos Hornos to an end, but supporters, coaches and players organise to keep handball alive. On 23 November 1970, the decision is taken to establish a new club.
In 1971, the statutes and red-and-white colours are approved. The new organisation competes in the Primera División Nacional and drives the construction of the municipal sports arena.
Resilience
The steel industry crisis hits both town and team, but Caja Sagunto's sponsorship and a new generation return the Port to the Primera División Nacional.
After relegation in 1983-84, the club responds by winning the second tier and reaching the 1984-85 promotion play-offs, restoring competitive stability.
Fiftieth anniversary
The club is a founder member of the new División de Honor B, comes through a demanding period and rises again with promotion in 2000. A generation developed through the academy takes over.
The fiftieth anniversary in 2001 brings together former players, documents, photographs and academy teams in a shared memory that looks to the future without losing its roots.
